Vintage Fun at the Fringe!

So excited to be coming to the Edinburgh Fringe this year – we are not performing (you’ll be pleased to hear) just showing and selling our fab wares at Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair.

Being held over the first weekend of the festival – 8th & 9th August – in the the uber cool ‘Out of the Blue & Drill Hall Arts Cafe‘, the fair is a great way to start the festival with a bang. The Drill Hall in Dalmeny Street was built as a military drill hall in 1901 and between 2003 and 2010 was redeveloped to become the vibrant arts centre it is today.

Along with us there will be over 30 amazing stalls featuring vintage clothes, homewares, furniture, lighting, record players and vinyl from 1920s to the 1980s! Should be a weekend packed with retro & vintage treasure.

The fair will be open 11am – 5pm, both days, Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th August. See our events listings for all details on the fair.

Check out the Fringe site to book shows after you have finished all your essential retro shopping!

Soda Syphon Use & Maintenance

As we sell lots of soda syphons and the accessories we thought we’d upload some helpful hints about filling, using and cleaning them.

Filling your Soda Syphon

Press the lever on the head to ensure syphon is not charged (under pressure). If it is press the lever until all the water has been removed.
Unscrew head and remove syphon tube, making sure the plastic sleeve stays inside. Fill the syphon body to the top with cold water, (A). If the level falls after filling DO NOT top up again as this will overfill the syphon.

Soda A

Replace the syphon tube and screw on head tightly – take care not to cross the threads. (B).

Soda B

Insert bulb into bulb holder and screw firmly onto syphon head. The bulb is automatically pierced and the gas discharged. The syphon is charged when gas cannot be heard bubbling into the water (about 30 seconds).

Soda C

Shake syphon vigorously for at least 10 seconds.
Remove bulb holder. There will be a gentle pop or hiss which will stop in a few seconds.

Important Notes
  • Do not fill the syphon without making sure the plastic sleeve is in position inside the syphon body.
  • Do not use more than one bulb per fill.
  • Do not fill the syphon with warm water unless you are cleaning it.
  • Before using a syphon for the first time or if the syphon has been stored for a long time it should first be rinsed out.

Non-Stoptober!

October has started with a bang and it is non-stop for events and fairs.

We survived a busy, but wet and windy Festival of Antiques at the Showground, Peterborough last week.

This weekend we are looking forward to a fab time at the Midcentury Show East, brought to you by Modern Shows. The show is being held in the Erno Goldfinger designed secondary school, Haggerston, East London. It is a rare opportunity to see the inside of this recently refurbished Grade II listed building, built in the 1960s.

At the end of the month there is an exciting addition to our calendar – TWO new furniture fleas, from Judy’s Vintage. Both in London the new furniture fleas are taking place in Lambeth Town Hall, Brixton Hill on 19th October and Seymour Leisure Centre, Marylebone on 26th October. As usual there will be great range of Vintage, Retro and Mid Mod furniture and homewares. Just like Bethnal Green we will be bringing a selection of Record players, Radiograms, speakers, clocks, lighting, phones and other vintage technology.

Check out our events page for all the October shows and those we are attending for the rest of the year

London Furniture Fleas Galore!

Our very good friends – Judy’s Affordable Vintage are launching new Furniture Flea events throughout London this Autumn.

Yellow & Black (2)The original furniture flea was launched in November 2010 at York Hall, Bethnal Green and has been a staple of the London Vintage scene since its inception. Specialising in affordable original vintage, retro and Midcentury Modern furniture and homewares the show is a must on all vintage-holics calendars.

We have been an exhibitor since the beginning and specialise in supplying vintage technology which we refurbish for today’s modern living. This gives you the best of both worlds, classic styling and 21st century usability. We sell a selection of radiograms, record players, dial telephones, lighting, homewares and of course furniture at all fleas we attend.

The new furniture fleas  will be taking place in Lambeth Town Hall, Brixton Hill on 19th October and Seymour Leisure Centre, Marylebone on 26th October. These new shows will follow the successful format of the Bethnal Green Flea and we will be exhibiting at both.

September Sizzlers

With the new incarnation of the website settling in we are back out on the road after a busy festival season.

Furniture Flea

Looking forward to the East London Furniture Flea, York Hall, Bethnal Green on 7th Sept and the Antique and Collectors Fair at Alexandra Palace on the 14th.

The fair at Ally Pally has been taken over by IACF and this is the inaugural one – so should be a learning curve for all. We won’t be in our usual spot but we are still on a wall stall around the edge of the hall so keep an eye out for us.
